The Color, Flow & Frequency of Your *Periods* tell Everything about Your Health – Check it Out!

A woman’s period is undoubtedly one of the most highly ignored subjects in our society. They come and go every month and still, there remain a number of things that you probably haven’t noticed about your period. Periods are not just a reminder that you are not pregnant, but it can also point out a number of health issues that might go unnoticed otherwise.

Here are some things that you should know about your period and what it says about your health!

1. The colour of your Period

Yes! The colour of your period can indicate major health issues you might have!

Pinkish colour: If your period blood is slightly pinkish it indicated low estrogen level in your body. While this may not seem like a big deal, low estrogen levels can increase your risk of osteoporosis if left untreated. Another reason for pinkish flow can be lack of nutrition in your body.

Dark reddish brown colour: If your period is dark reddish, it is an indication of a perfectly healthy body and that your periods are soon to end!

2. The type of flow

 

Light flow indicates stress, hormonal imbalance, low nutrition level and problems thyroid and pituitary glands.

Heavy bleeding can cause anaemia. It can also lead to a fertility-threatening fibroid, growths on the uterine wall, polyps, tumours in the cervix or uterus, or endometriosis. These conditions are often seen in 35 year old women.

3. Cramps

Cramps are caused because of a chemical called prostaglandins, which makes the uterus contract and push the blood out of the body. Cramps felt in the lower abdomen can lead to a serious health problem called endometriosis, which happens when the type of tissue normally found inside the uterus starts growing outside the uterus. It can briefly cut off blood supply to the area, and cause lots of pain. If you are experiencing something like this, you should visit your doctor!

4. Irregular cycle

Normal menstrual cycle lie between 25 to 35 days. In the initial years, after starting your menstruation, it is common to have an irregular cycle, lying out of the 25 to 35 day cycle. Although, irregular cycle in later years is not a good sign.

Irregular period cycle indicates a Hormonal imbalance in the body which can cause clots. In case of irregular cycle, consulting your doctor is a wise decision.
