But, do you know those evening rituals are the prime suspect when it comes to the reason you’ve been packing on the pounds. Everything you do at night affects your body. Here, have a look!
1) YOU STAY UP UNTIL THE WEE HOURS
Staying up until the wee hours affects your metabolism and makes it much slower. And missing out on shut-eye cause you to eat more the next day and crave high-calorie foods. It increases your cortisol level and the next day you exercise less because you feel tired.
Note: You should take at least 8 hours of sleep. So, start applying the mantra in your life, that’s “Early to bed and early to rise”.
2) DINNER IS YOUR BIGGEST MEAL
If you eat big meals before you go to bed, then your body can face trouble winding down because there’s still a lot of blood flow required to your stomach for digestion which is disruptive.
Note: Choose a light dinner that mainly consists of proteins and vegetables.
3) YOU BREW A CUP OF TEA BEFORE SLEEPING
Drinking tea should be reserved for the morning, unless it’s an herbal blend, tea leaves contain caffeine: a stimulant that keeps your mind alert and active and that could prevent you from getting a restorative night’s sleep.
4) YOU EAT ON THE COUCH
The habit of sitting at a table to eat will do a body good. That’s because it allows you to focus on your company and on the task at hand: eating. And on the other side sitting on couch and eating while watching TV, makes your brain do multitask. And eating while watching TV sometime results in overeating.
5) YOU ALWAYS TREAT YOURSELF TO DESSERT
White sugar and flour transform into fat cells and you can’t burn those calories off at night. Eating desserts can cause you to pile on the pounds when it becomes a daily habit.
Note: If you love eating something sweet after dinner, then eat fruits instead. Fruits are sweet, tasty and healthy for your body.
6) YOU CHOOSE THE WRONG LATE-NIGHT SNACKS
High-fat snacks can keep your body up working to digest these high-density foods, while high-sugar snacks can cause spikes and crashes in your blood sugar, causing you to wake up in the middle of the night hungry.
7) YOU FORGO SHOWERING UNTIL MORNING
The temperature dip after taking a good and relaxing shower might make your pound-shedding shuteye deeper and could help you fall asleep faster.
8) YOU GO TO BED RIGHT AFTER DINNER
Going to bed right after dinner makes you accumulate more fat cells. And you’ll have to face digestive problems because of sleeping right after having dinner.
Note: You must have dinner approximately 2 hours before going to bed.
9) YOU EAT SPICY FOOD AT DINNER
Eating spicy food at dinner can lead to poor digestion. And you’ll not be able to sleep comfortably and it can also cause heartburn.
Note: Spicy food is actually good for speeding up your metabolism. Eat it, if you like it, but don’t eat it at night.
10) YOU HAVE CEREAL OR OTHER CARBOHYDRATES FOR DINNER
Eating cereals or other carbohydrates give you extra energy at night that won’t be any of your use because you’ll be sleeping. And high-carbohydrate foods contain too many refined sugars that need to be burned off immediately and it can not be done during the night.
11) YOU SCROLL THROUGH WORK EMAILS/SOCIAL MEDIA
If you scroll through your work emails or social media, then know that the blue light, emitted by those gadgets, affects health and sleep. And the radio frequency waves also cause sleep deprivation.
12) YOU TEND TO SKIP DINNER
Skipping dinner won’t help you to lose weight, instead it will slow down your metabolism. It’ll only make you feel hungry at your next meal and you’ll tend to eat more. Skipping meals can cause anxiety and lose muscle tissues.
13) YOU READ FROM AN IPAD IN BED
The blue light emitted from your iPad, computer, and the smartphone can trick your brain into thinking it’s time to be awake rather than time to sleep. Thus, reducing your time of sleep.
14) YOU CONSUME ALCOHOL OR CAFFEINE
If you drink coffee or alcohol before going to bed, then know these products affect your sleep and they contain many calories that is not good for your health.
